Guild Wars 2 has been a big success since its launch in 2012, and it’s growing at a rapid pace. In the last year, the MMORPG has added over 15 million new accounts, and it plans to add another million this year. The numbers are impressive, but they pale in comparison to the number of players that have already logged into the game. In fact, the total number of players that have played the game is now over 16 million. It appears that the company’s plans for the rest of the year will be pretty traditional.
The number of active players in the MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has hit 16 million, following the game’s latest update, which added a raft of new content. The game’s development team has announced that the old version 1.0 “Countdown” update will be replaced by a new series of updates that sees the launch of content formerly hinted at in the game’s roadmap, including skiffs, fishing, fishing skiffs, the End of Dragons storyline, and the behemoth raid content.
Remember how thrilled everyone was when ArenaNet released the Guild Wars 2 summer roadmap earlier this year? Prepare to be enthralled all over again, since the studio has published an autumn and winter roadmap, complete with an infographic and anniversary information, as of this morning. We like it when people communicate with each other.
First and foremost, there is the blueprint itself. The elite spec beta events were previously announced; three more are set to take place in September, October, and November, as well as a WvW alliance beta in a month. Expect the regular festival schedule as well as more freebie episodes.
The DX11 update is still still in the works.
“On September 21, the DirectX11 integration will enter beta testing. Players may opt in through the in-game settings menu, and they’re urged to give comments and report any problems on the Guild Wars 2 forums.”
What about the WvW reorganization?
“Before then, we have a lot of work to do. On August 31, we’ll be releasing several major upgrades to our server architecture, including the servers that power World vs. World. For a few weeks, this new server code will operate quietly in the background, enabling us to stress test the system with real player data. During this period, you should not notice any differences in your WvW games. We know you’re itching to learn more about the world’s reorganization. We’ll publish a dedicated blog on the feature well ahead of the first beta event, which will contain an up-to-date description of the system and our beta plans.”
If you’ve been gone from the game for a while, make sure you check in to grab Daybreak, which is this week’s gratis episode.
Following that, the infographic contains a few tasty tidbits, such as the fact that the game has 16 million accounts. The ninth anniversary of Guild Wars 2 is coming up tomorrow, which means the oldest toons will receive their anniversary presents first; they will include cake, new dyes, weapon packs, boosters, and other goodies.
Finally, there’s some fresh information on the skiffs and fishing mechanics that will be included in End of Dragons next year – including a trailer!
