Look, everyone reaches a point in their lives when they are changed into full-fledged adults. It comes without warning: one day you’re shutting down a pub with the dawn, the next you’re discussing the best methods to keep your dishwasher clean with your bestie.
When I couldn’t stop extolling the virtues of silicone baking mats, it was time for me to face the music. I can’t suggest them highly enough, and as a result, I’ve accepted that I’m beyond my prime.

Even after a thorough cleaning in the dishwasher, our sheets are riddled with burn spots and sometimes sticky with an oily residue. Cooking using the silicone baking mats, which are dishwasher-safe, gives me the assurance that whatever meal I’m creating won’t be contaminated by what’s left on the sheet. I’m also certain that the mats will prevent the baking sheet from being soiled.
Silicone sheets can resist temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit in the oven and can also be frozen. They’re completely nonstick and wipe clean with ease. When it comes to practicing sustainability, buying anything new is seldom the best choice. However, I feel they are well worth the money since they significantly reduce the need for single-use sheet liners.
As I previously said, I’ve had mine for two years and expect them to survive for many more. One technique to make sure they last is to avoid cutting directly on top of them, since a sharp knife might slice through the silicone and ultimately create a hole.
While throwing away foil isn’t our largest environmental fault in the kitchen (indeed, in many jurisdictions, aluminum foil is recyclable if done right), we think these reusable sheets are a win when it comes to making little adjustments to reduce waste.
